Surrender: Trust Your Intuition and Create Aligned Action

Surrender is often misunderstood. It can feel like giving up control, leaving us vulnerable or powerless. But what if surrender isn't about letting go of power but shifting how we relate to it, especially when navigating significant personal change?

In a recent session with a client who was standing at a major life crossroads, we dove deep into the idea of surrender. It brought up questions about what it truly means to let go and trust life, and I reflected on my own journey with surrender through periods of transformation.

For many, surrender sparks discomfort because it feels like giving in or giving up. It may seem like you're placing your trust in something intangible when everything else feels uncertain. But, from my experience, surrender is less about giving up and more about creating space for intuition to lead. When I set an intention that feels aligned with my inner truth, I can let go of the need to control how it unfolds. Instead, I focus on my job which is taking the next intuitive step, even if it doesn't seem logical at the moment.

Some of the most magical experiences in my life have come when I released the urge to micromanage during periods of uncertainty and allowed life to guide me. Whether it's finding myself in the right place at the right time or meeting the perfect person for the next step in my journey, surrender has opened the door to unexpected but aligned opportunities when I was between chapters of my life.

Surrender doesn't mean inaction, it means taking inspired action when navigating the unknown.

Often, this can look like small, seemingly insignificant steps when you're in transition. For instance, it might be as simple as reaching out to someone you haven't spoken to in a while or following a nudge to take a walk. These small actions can open doors to new experiences, ones that wouldn't be possible if we clung too tightly to a specific rhyme or reason, especially when we're no longer who we were but not yet who we're becoming.

A few months ago I heard this inner whisper - “Life knows how to live, if you let it.” It reminds me that just as flowers bloom without force and fruits ripen naturally, we too can trust the natural flow of life. When we align our intention, intuition, and inspired action, we co-create with life itself, even during times of significant personal evolution.

Here are a few questions to explore within yourself around surrender during times of change:

  • What am I afraid of losing if I surrender to this transition?

  • What would trusting my intuition in this in-between space look like?

  • Where have I been holding on too tightly to who I was, and what might emerge if I let go just a little?

Surrender is a practice, one that invites us to dance with life rather than control it. It's about trusting that where we're led is exactly where we need to be, especially when moving through life's important transitions.
